We carried out this project after winning a competition launched in 2008. The construction's programme provides a complex accomodating 250 waste collectors in Turin, an operating centre for recycling, a partly covered parking and an underground one. The difficulty lay in proposing an architecture that could coexist with the surrounding territory and the river park of the Colletta and with a designated use that never completely met with the approval of the inhabitants of the neighborhood. Hiding, camouflaging and integrating were the concepts that inspired us. To meet these needs we imagined that the whole construction could take the morphology of a natural soil, just a little more geometric, drawn by broken lines that come out of the ground and then come back a hundred meters later. We covered the main volume on the outer side with a thick weave of vertical lamellae in recomposed wood, attacked by an embankment covered by several irregular herbaceous essences. The roofs were treated with natural vegetation to emphasize the concept of camouflage integration, so that the visual impact, even from the nearby Turin hill is appreciable.
Abbiamo realizzato questo progetto dopo esserci aggiudicati un concorso bandito nel 2008. Il programma prevede la realizzazione di un complesso destinato ad accogliere 250 addetti alla raccolta rifiuti torinese, un ecocentro, un centro operativo per la raccolta differenziata, un parcheggio in parte coperto ed uno interrato. La difficoltà stava nel proporre un'architettura che potesse convivere con il territorio circostante ed il parco fluviale della Colletta e con una destinazione d'uso che non incontrava mai del tutto il benestare degli abitanti del quartiere. Nascondere, mimetizzare ed integrarsi sono stati quindi i concetti che ci hanno ispirato. Per rispondere a queste esigenze abbiamo immaginato che tutto il costruito potesse assumere la morfologia di un terreno naturale, delle colline, solo un po' più geometriche, disegnate da linee spezzate che nascono da terra per poi ritornarci cento metri dopo. Il volume principale sul lato esterno lo abbiamo rivestito con una fitta trama di lamelle verticali in legno ricomposto, aggredito da un terrapieno coperto da diverse essenze erbacee ad andamento irregolare. Le coperture sono state trattate con del verde naturale per enfatizzare il concetto di integrazione mimetica, in modo che l'impatto visivo, anche dalla vicina collina torinese sia apprezzabile.
